STATEMENT OF PURPOSE FOR A STUDY VISA

My name is xxxxxxxxxxx with Passport No: xxxxxxxxxxx and a Nigerian Citizen. Being an aspiring corporate professional, I pen down this statement to put forward my grounds and purpose of studying Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management Program at the eminent Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia, Sydney, Canada which is scheduled to begin by 6th of September, 2023 with DLI No: O19391556824 and Student ID: xxxxxx. I find pursuing this program at this juncture as a perfect career-defining opportunity for me since it would equip me with valuable global exposure and cutting-edge knowledge of an advanced occupational and safety health management. In years down the line, these takeaways would act as an impetus for me to prove my mettle in a competitive and challenging turf.

Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management presupposes a crisis. Accidents at the work place do not arrive with notice. These incidents happen at the most unsuspected moments. If serious in nature, they can destroy what has been achieved by the organizations with dedicated efforts over the years. Any organization, big or small, needs to have a management team, and it should consist of skilled personnel in the area of occupational health and safety. My interest for this field of study is both from are remunerative and a service point of view. As it’s already known, Occupational Safety are applicable anywhere there is a workplace, for example, the transportation industry, mining industry, manufacturing industry, hospital, etc. Each sector of the industry has its difficulties based on the process. Maintaining a company with a good HSE performance (zero incident, zero occupational diseases, and zero environmental damage) needs a very solution for every problem that occurs. I had a comprehensive introduction to the importance of occupational health and safety through work experience at my designated position as a Safety Officer at Cost Plus Associates & Construction Company, Ikeja-Lagos, Nigeria.

Cape Breton University is one of the highly rated and excellent universities in Canada known for its innovative research. I have decided to apply for a post-baccalaureate diploma program here. The University seems to offer a unique level of thoroughness in its approach to this field. It offers work-based learning (WBL) projects, which ensure that the knowledge being developed is relevant. After carefully reading the curriculum and the course requirements, I believe it perfectly matches my professional research interests and profile. The University is a highly ranked school in Canada. The school has world-class facilities to facilitate learning and highly qualified industry experts as instructors. Studying at this reputable institution would give me a sense of pride. Learning at Cape Breton University would enable me to interact with a larger community of international and international students, and it will contribute positively to my cross-culture experiences. I will progress at a personal level and, I will be one step closer to laying the foundation for a successful future. Cape Breton University is also known for its excellent student satisfaction rating, an essential factor to me as an international student. Several factors influence my decision to study this course in Canada. Firstly, because of the high quality of education. Universities in Canada have an impressive international reputation and rank among the best in the world. By studying in Canada, I will be immersing myself in centuries of high-quality academia. Secondly, degrees in Canada are usually shorter compared to other countries and especially in my home country where there is always the issue of strike occasioned by lecturers towards the government. I am confident I would be able to settle in smoothly during the duration of my study. Right now, Canada research is world-leading with international excellence and relevance.

It’s quite important to understand the fact that people are social beings and others support is must. Therefore, people need to contribute as much as possible to their surroundings by being helpful to them. All people had their own way to be helpful for others. I deeply believe that the field of occupational health and safety, a course I undertook as a Business Administration student which has attracted me since my first semester at university, is my way to do something for society, a comprehensive way to be helpful especially for my colleagues and business partner employees.

In addition, I had also tried to have some contribution in the educational development of occupational health by being a guest speaker in some Health centers and small companies as I still wish to be a lecturer at the Nigerian University which I graduated from, and hope one day to go back there with fully handed especially immediately on completion of my program in Canada by September, 2025. I will use my broad experience and insight in a theoretical, practitioner and international collaboration through Chevening to gather the most recent and appropriate material to support these activities.

I have also taken a clearer proactive approach to complete various occupational health and safety courses. Through completing these courses, I will be able to develop a superb foundational grounding in the key issues surrounding the methods of safeguarding public health through best safety practices. In addition, I will also learn about the ways in which hazards or diseases can be affected and the underlying principles of health legislation.

The Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety in Cape Breton University seems to offer a unique level of thoroughness in its approach to this field. As a discipline, occupational health is very much an interdisciplinary field of studies and amongst others with occupational health professionals needing a theoretical and scientific knowledge of health issues and expertise in practical issues of policy implementation and legal matters.

I believe that the course would be the ideal starting point from which I can then go on to pursue a career as an occupational health and safety practitioner whether in the public or private sector. I strongly believe that my previous experience, current job, and study experiences demonstrate my ability to succeed in both postgraduate studies and a career in occupational health and safety. I have also held a variety of professional roles that have helped me to develop into an able communicator and problem solver.

Overall, I believe that the Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety will be the perfect opportunity to learn more about these matters before I proceed to a career in this most important and interesting of professional sectors.  

I hail from a family of five which consists of my father, mother, brother and sister including myself. My family happens to be my greatest assets as I will return to re-unite with them immediately after my study program in Canada. I would like to mention that my mother will fund the expenses of my tuition fee and living costs. In addition to her support, I have also set aside reasonable funds to bear all the expenses during my study tenure in Canada. I have attached all the financial documents to support the aforementioned financial stability. I don’t have dependents that I am responsible for and as such I will be able to concentrate on my studies. I understand that as an international student, my core assignment in Canada is to have and maintain a good academic standard and make sure my study permit is valid throughout my study.
